Taking a Deep Breath

This is not a photo of knitting, because there has been very little knitting lately, except for a few inches of the yellow cotton thing that I can't show you. What there has been a lot of this past week is family, food, and grandbaby cuddling, and that's O.K.

This photo was taken at the Denver Botanic Gardens, in the Japanese Garden section. I love this place. In the center of all the craziness that came with DD's commencement, the few hours we spent there probably saved my sanity. It's my Lourdes. It's where I came to the realization that I will never, ever come close to being able to juggle everything I want and need to do, and hold on to what little sanity I have left. If I don't love it, it goes to the bottom of my bottomless list. And if I do love it, it's O.K. to move it around that list--I'll eventually get back to it.

I'm admitting to the fact that sometimes, for me, multitasking means blogging, walking the dog, and knitting all in the same day. I realize there are people who do these things simultaneous, and if you are one of them, don't judge--several times this week I held a baby, made sandwiches, did laundry, checked my email and Twitter feeds, and carried on conversations with a room full of people, all at the same time. So clearly I have skills. I'm just judicious about when I use them.

I do feel bad about all your blog posts I haven't read, let alone commented on, and the comments on my own blog that I haven't acknowledged, but I hope you'll cut me some slack. I'm taking a deep breath, lingering in my happy place a little while longer, and getting some extra sleep so I can get back to my knitter's life with a vengeance. I just hope they left a beer in the refrigerator. That would help.

  1. there is nothing to forgive - all is understood! Multi-tasking is a new phrase, one that we never could conceive of before children and knitting. When did this existence take on such thunder and whip snapping intensity? We need to go back to the days when it was perfectly sensible to spend an afternoon on the porch reading, knitting or just napping! But never at the same time. Having said that, the pot is boiling, the dog needs walking, the shirt has to be ironed and the laundry thrown into the dryer. Oh, and work, must go to work. Knitting? Baby holding? What is wrong with this picture?

  3. I think I'm in that same place. But, you know what --- family, babies, and friends --- THAT'S the important stuff.

The blog world will be there when you get back to it. :-) HUGS!

  6. You are the most generous person I know when it comes to commenting on other people's blogs and to responding to comments on your own. No need to apologize for focusing on your family & your own self-care -- we're all JelliDonut fans and want you to be happy & sassy :-)

  7. That looks like a perfectly gorgeous garden to gain some sanity in. My refuge is the rosebush by the front door that I always stop to smell when leaving the house.

  8. I know how it is to be that busy. Some weeks I'm able to get to everyone's posts, and some days I can't even reply to the people who were nice enough to reply to my posts (those take priority).

And for what it's worth, I multitask about the way you do. I'm lucky to get three different things done on any given day.

And btw, that picture is really beautiful. :)

  10. Yay for you for taking a breath! And what a place to do it - at the botanical gardens. We've got to go back. I feel tranquil just looking at your photo!

I'm trying not to multi-task so much too these days. I feel like it might be more calming not too. Maybe I'll focus better!

  11. Heck, you need to know your limits.
I'm a firm believer in not doing something if it is no longer fun.
Not that I have good follow through on that belief.

  15. Leonard, the photo was taken by me, at the Denver Botanic Gardens. If you don't live in Denver but are planning a visit, it's not to be missed. Even in winter, it's a lovely place to be. Thanks for you comment!

A few people seem to be having problems leaving comments. I have no clue why--Blogger doesn't make it easy to figure these things out. If you are having issues, you can always email me. Thanks for commenting, or trying to...
