Does this blog post make my butt look big?

I have so many *WIPs going on at the same time, it's almost depressing. A couple are gifts that I know won't be finished on time. Some are work related that MUST be finished on time. Others are for me, so they've been pushed to the bottom of the heap. Great! Now that I've written this down I really feel like a slacker, so to distract myself, let's talk about my ass instead.

I've been trying to lose a few pounds--I will settle for ten, although in all honesty it should probably be more like fifteen or twenty. For a couple of months I was keeping track of my food intake and weight loss with this app. The result? Five pounds over two months, not much bang for my depravation buck. It would have been more fun to give myself a Twinkie enema. I know I should be happy with ANY negative number, but I need some instant gratification in my life, especially since everything else I'm doing is all about the Long Term and nothing about the Right Now. Not that I'm knocking the app--it's pretty good for keeping track of your food intact and exercise regimen, and it does a great job of reminding you to log your meals. But I don't know. When I upped my calorie budget because I got so damn hungry I almost ate my shoes, that's when I would lose a little weight--but only sometimes. Most of the time the scale didn't budge.

Now, the website has added this little device you clip on, to record the number of steps you take, your activity levels, and how much and how well you sleep. Apparently, good sleep is important to weight loss and might explain why I suck at it. The Fitbit Tracker wirelessly uploads the data so that's one less thing to think about. Applying my no-fail logic, something with such a dumb name will never work. This means, of course, that it probably WILL work, since my track record for getting rid of my extra ass poundage is pathetic. I know nothing. Do not listen to me.

I've decided to order the Fitbit Tracker and give Lose It! another chance, if for no other reason than to eat better, nutrition-wise. It can't hurt to consume more fruits and veggies and less salt and fat. I'll let you know how it goes, from time to time, but it's not going to become a focus of this blog.**

If you're reading this blog post today, July 13, 2011, please note the fact that today is National French Fries Day, according to the Punchbowl widget in the sidebar. This explains so much...

*Works in progress, for you non-knitters
**Notice how I neatly dodged the whole accountability thing.

  1. Question I once asked a friend: Do these jeans make my butt look big?
Answer from my now ex-friend: Im afraid it's the other way around, dear.

I surrendered. Now I ask it the right way around, Does my butt make these jeans look big?

  2. Isn't that the way it always is? We put knitting for ourselves aside to work on gifts? Don't get me wrong, I love to knit gifts but I do tend to put my knitting down, a lot. I think that's why I love to knit socks. Because I always get a pair done for me in between all the gift knitting.
Actually, losing 5lbs in two months is excellent! Change your eating habits, lose 2-3lbs a month and you will tend to keep the weight off. But you are right, it takes time.
French fries day huh? now you've done it! I must resist, I MUST resist wanting French fries!!

  3. Husband and I are on Weight Watchers. So far, that's been the easiest and best way for him to lose weight and keep it off. But we also should buy sneakers and start moving our butts!

  5. You're not the only one with a million WIPs. Kudos to you for admitting it. -- On the weight loss issue. I agree, five pounds is a great start. It's better than two pounds. I could stand to lose twenty myself. I recently bought an exercise thingy that I need to make more use of. As long as we don't give up and give in.

  9. National French Fries day. I think I need to head to Chili's right. Their fries are about my favorite. I've started "Weigh and Win". It's slow going, but I'm determined. It's sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and I guess some other Denver hospitals? There are kiosks around town where you go weigh in, and they send you tips and stuff. It's the kiosk and weigh in which is good for me. I need accountability!

  10. I have lost 20 lbs since last november doing the Mayo Clinic weight management program -- 50% of your daily intake of 1200 calories must come from veggies and fruit. Trust me, 600 calories adds up to a LOT of green veggies so I never go hungry BUT, I had a flare up of sciatica, have had to give up all physical activity and now I'm at a standstill -- not gaining (good) but not able to shift it down an inch (discouraging) -- I've got 10 more pounds to go and like you, I wanted to get there yesterday. Keep with it, you can do it !!

  12. kathy b--I am the same way on vacations. I find energy I never knew I had and I get the best sleep. It's crazy!

Renee Anne--I'm just as bad with onion rings!

Wildflowerwool--Yes, I should be happy about 5 pounds but I feel like I worked hard enough to get rid of 20! I feel like throwing a tantrum. At least that would burn some calories.

    Thanks everybody!
