Tell me about it...Winter

Do you love it? Have you gathered up all of your wool socks and sweaters, put 'em in a big pile and done a snow dance around it? Are you searching Ravelry for turtleneck patterns? Or do you hate Old Man Winter with a passion and can't stand the thought of summer EVER going away?

Tell me about it!

  2. Hate it!! Hate snow, hate ice, hate cold. Except for at night, I do love to snuggle down under a big warm blanket when it's time for bed. Other than that, I'd be happy with just Spring and Fall forever, with a few hot weeks of summer thrown in for fun!!

  4. Hate to say I don't think I'll be dealing with snow in northern California. We might have lots of issues here but the weather can't be beat. This from someone who would really rather be living in Texas. Can you tell I don't do snow!!!!

  5. There will never be snow dancing in my house. I HATE winter...well, sort of. I don't mind the cold so much (as long as I have things to keep me warm) and the snow is pretty but I hate driving in snow, plowing snow, shoveling snow, salting icy sidewalks, and having to take Puppy for a walk in the snow. If I could figure out how to make it just snow on the grass, trees, and houses and not on the roads and sidewalks, I'd be extremely happy (and rich).

However, I am starting to work more on my socks and I'm thinking about sweaters (again)...

  6. If I woke up one winter morning and looked outside our balcony window to see something even remotely close to that, I think I'd literally pee myself with joy.

We had one day last winter where it was suggested we might get snow here, even if it didn't stick. It never materialized. I can't even begin to tell you how sad and disappointed I was.
I borrowed winter for a week and some when we went to Nebraska in February, but it's not the same.

If anyone who gets winter wants to spare some for me out here in CA, I'd gladly accept it. I guess I'll just have to have a weekend up in the nearby mountains once the weather gets cold. :\

  7. As a California girl (through and through) winter starts for me as soon as it's below 50 degrees. Living in Ohio, that means winter can last from October through April. That's no fun, let me tell you. I like the snow until after the new year, at which point I become just sick of it.

  8. I love love LOVE the winter! I'm going to miss it now that I moved to the South. I love being snow bound and all the quiet energy that comes with the winter. I also love how quiet it makes everyone. No obnoxiously loud children outside at 2am playing. ;)

  9. Since it's just our second "real" winter, we still get pretty excited about the possibility of snow. However, what I LOVE is coming now. Fall! :)

  10. I hope that's an old picture and that you don't have snow yet. I don't like winter or being cold. I'd love it if it just got cold enough to wear one of my knitted sweaters, and no more. I'm dreading this winter already now that I'm living in Calgary. I've been informed by some who live here that it was a tough winter last year.

you have too many warm-weather readers looking for snow - tell them they are welcome in fargo anytime (well besides june through august, no snow yet)

  13. I have to say that I love winter. Although sitting on the balcony with a beer, my I-Pod and knitting is good, those days are fleeting in a Calgary summer. The good weather also means that I have work to do in the garden or around the house.
But winter in Calgary? I love it if I don't have to go out. I love snuggling in flannelette sheets, wearing my woolies, knitting and watching hockey games. I love the clear blue sky and the bright sun on white snow - so bright it makes my eyes hurt. The mountains in the distance with their new snow make me ache with longing to be on a ski hill somewhere. Maybe it's that I know nothing different, but I love the drama of seasonal changes.
Although it can go rather long - and I hate snow in July (which has happened....)

  14. It's really HARD to think about winter when it is still in the 90s. UGH! However, I AM knitting some socks. But, then I'm ALWAYS knitting socks. LOL

  15. I like the in-between months, where a sweater is appropriate, but you can step outside the house without freezing or baking instantly. But, like other knitters, I welcome the cold season as a time to enjoy the woolens. Especially hats. I dig hats.
