Show me yours and win some Zauberball

DD recently got the book list for her senior year of IB. Let's just say this ain't exactly summer reading: Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, Beowulf, John Donne's Poetry, Waiting for Godot, Proof, and A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, among others.

What's on my reading list? The Secret Life of a Knitter, The Age of Wonder, Open--An Autobiography. I could go on and on because I'm really good at buying books and sucky at making the time to read them. I WILL rectify this situation.

So, what's on your reading list? Send me a comment telling me what you'd like to read this summer and you'll be entered to win one ball of this deliciousness:

Here are the rules: You must comment on this post no later than midnight, June 14, 2010 (Mountain Time). Only comments posted on this post will be entered in the giveaway. That's pretty much it. The winner gets their choice of color way. I'm keeping one for myself and donating the other.

Shortly after midnight of June 14, I'll give the old random number generator a kick and see which number it spits out. Why June 14? That's DH's birthday, and he actually reads the books he buys pretty much as soon as he buys them.

Good luck everybody and thanks for reading my blog!

  1. Ooh, books! yarn! This summer I will be reading The Angel's Game by Carlos Ruiz Zafos (in translation, of course). Shadow of the Wind was an incredible read.

    Happy reading!

  3. I'm destashing books this summer from my office/creative space (to make room for yarn!), but in the "read me" pile so far are Malcolm Gladwell's Blink and Daniel Gilbert's Stumbling on Happiness.

  6. This Summer I want to read Trust Agents by Chris Brogan. It is a business/social media/marketing book. Gah!
And I am going to re-read Linchpin by Seth Godin, also a business/marketing book. Yes... I read those in my spare time :)

Maybe some Zauberbal yarn will get me out of my knitting rut...

Wow, where do I begin? I have several I need to read, but I'll give 3 examples... Death by Cashmere(Sally Goldenbaum), Fleece Navidad(Maggie Sefton), Ghost Hunting(Jason Hawes & Grant Wilson/TAPS). Majority of them are fiber related (Novels or mysteries). Hopefully I'll be able to out a dent in them by the end of the year. ;-)

    Happy reading & knitting

  10. I wish I'd had a book list that interesting for school at any time. All mine were dull and dreary.

As for now, I've mostly switched to audio books so I can "read" while knitting. I'm listening to Kate Morton's The Forgotten Garden. But you can't beat the experience of actually picking up a real book so I'm reading Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere as well.

  11. this is actually a bit fun.
The man I rent from and share bathroom with installed a new wasking machine yesterday and there's no way I use the toilet without a door (use to have nighmares about just that LOL) so I went to the library. Was a bit fuzzy for having slept too long and decided to try an author I have heard about but never read; Haruki Murakami.

The biggest book didn't have anything on the cover telling what it was all about so I went irritated. It was also said to be one of the best books of the century wich made me even more sure I wouldn't like it. I still started to read, just to know.

So I sat there beside the bookshelf and read the first chapter. I liked it:-P

    It's The Wind-up Bird Chronicle

  12. I want to read the newest Sookie Stackhouse book. (The series is getting a little tired at this point but I have to finish it out til the end at this point, eh?) That new vampire book, The Passage will probably get a looksee. Everybody keeps talking about it and making comparisons to The Stand so I now I *have* to read it.
And I really should finish the Outlander #4 book on my Kindle that I started about 6 months ago but never finished. (Now THAT series I think I am done with but I paid for the damn thing so I should finish it. Even if it makes my eyes roll back into my head so hard I'll need a surgeon to get them back. Because I'm hardcore, errrr, foolish like that.)

  13. I just picked up (again) "Everyday Sacred" by Susan Bender. A friend gave it to me a few years ago. I started it and didn't finish it.

I LOVE Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead. Stoppard rocks in general. Actually, it looks like she has a good list. But then I was a Lit Major.
The movie script of R&G is different than the play script just a wee bit. So she should read the version they gave her first before she runs off and rents the movie, which has Gary Oldman. Who also Rocks.

Oh, was I supposed to talk about more books? I don't have time to knit, you think I've got time to read? sheesh. ;-)

  14. It doesn't matter if I win...I like this post! I have to say, Portrait of an Artist put me in a COMA during college, don't know how I did Joyce. But I love Tom Stoppard, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern is GREAT, tell her to get the movie with Tim Roth and Gary Oldman, it's wonderful, I still remember having a pint with TIm many moons ago.

My summer reading list includes Small Island by Andrea Levy (a Whitbread winner) and I'm finally going to tackle Sister Carrie. I wish I knew why....

  15. My summertime reading is usually dedicated to reading the literary classics that I've never gotten around to. I've got War and Peace (bought a year or two ago) and Pillars of the Earth (given to me by a friend, also a couple years ago!)

I think that might be enough to keep me busy??? But if I win some Zauberball, I might not get any reading in, lol!!!

  18. Will be catching up with the Debbie Macomber books that I bought and haven't had time to read. Headed to Canada on holiday in August so this will be my holiday reading and I can only hope that I won't lose my book to a chambermaid this year.

Last year in New York, I sat on the bed after a long day walking and sightseeing and looked forward to a couple of chapters of my book before bed. It was gone!!! Don't know whether it fell in the bin or in the maid's pocket but I had to buy another copy when I got home.

  19. I will be reading lots and lots of children/teen books in preparation for the fall semester at the university (I work in a teaching resource library) as well as my one day a week in the library at my kid's school. High on my list is Laurie Halse Anderson - Fever 1793, Clara Parks - A Knitter's Book of Wool and Scott Turow's new book Innocent.

  21. For my summer reading, I'm finally going to get the chance to start the Yarn Harlot books that have been impatiently waiting for me. Other than those, I'll be reading piles for my summer grad courses - on electronic records (how exciting) and the history of the book (much more up my alley). :)

  22. I just finished The Help (highly recommend) and I'm going to start Cormac McCarthy's Border Trilogy next.

  23. Right now I am reading Daughter of the Forest, by Juliet Marillier. I'm on a fantasy kick right now, so this summer I think I'll continue this series called the Sevenwaters Forest, and throw in some YA fiction since I am a 7th/8th grade English teacher. The third book in the Single Thread series, A Thread So Thin, is out and I will probably read that too.
